What we cover
The directory ranks 93 approved tools in four categories. Each tool is ranked within its own category:
Which tools we include
Tools built only for dentistry qualify. A general-purpose tool can be listed only if it makes a clear, public case for dental use, and ideally shows active users in the US dental market: named practices, dental case studies, or dental-specific features and integrations. If we can't find that, we don't list it.
The four things every score is based on
- Fit for dental practices. Was it built for dentistry? Dental-specific workflows such as recall, treatment acceptance and insurance count heavily.
- Integrations. A tool that doesn't connect to your practice management system creates double entry, and double entry kills adoption.
- Support. Rollout, onboarding and day-to-day help matter as much as features.
- Evidence. We look for public proof anyone can check: independent review-site ratings, named dentist testimonials we match to the NPI registry, security certifications and published studies. In imaging, that also means FDA clearance. Practice-management and patient-communication rubrics weight it at 15%.
A score is a starting point for your shortlist, not a final verdict. Every listing also carries a one-line verdict that says what the tool is actually for.
A person reviews every listing
Nothing goes live automatically. Each tool moves through a review queue: draft (research started), in review (details, pricing and score being checked), approved (published) or rejected (not dental-relevant, not a real product, or not available). Listings still being verified show a Preliminary review label.
We also record a confidence level for each listing, based on how much verifiable information we could find. It's shown on every tool page.
Demos we've seen
Some tools carry a small mark on their score. It means we've seen the product working, not just read about it.
- Solid lilac mark: live demo. We joined a live walkthrough with the company and asked our own questions.
- Mint outline mark: demo. We reviewed a recorded walkthrough or screen recording.
A live demo counts for more than a recorded one, and a demo is evidence, not an endorsement. Vendors can't pay for a demo or its mark.
We only list prices vendors publish
If a vendor publishes pricing, we show it and link the source. If it doesn't, the listing says “Contact vendor.” Price isn't part of the score.
What our scores are based on
Every score weighs all the publicly available evidence we can find online. That includes the vendor's own site and documentation, published pricing, integration and partner listings, FDA records where they apply, independent reviews, and testimonials from doctors and practices on the vendor's site once we've confirmed those people and practices are real.
What a score can't include is anything a company keeps internal or doesn't publish. That means private pricing, unreleased features, internal outcome data, customer counts and roadmaps. If it isn't public, we can't verify it, so it doesn't count for or against a tool. A vendor that wants something considered can publish it, or send us a link through a score review.
Tools we score can't be sponsors
Any tool scored on Dental AI Tools is not a sponsor and can't become one. The two never overlap. Sponsored placements are only for companies we don't rank, they're clearly labeled, they sit outside the ranked list, and their links are marked as sponsored for search engines.

What changes, and how often
We add tools, update pricing when vendors change it, and adjust scores when products improve or don't. Every tool page shows when it was last reviewed. Every published score change is listed in the score changelog. The Dental AI Spotlight newsletter goes out every Tuesday. Know a tool we're missing? Suggest it.
Score corrections
Scores are built from public evidence only. If you represent a vendor and think a score is inaccurate, request a score review and send us links to anything public we missed. A person reads every request, checks it against the criteria above, and we'll reconsider the score. Requests don't guarantee a change, and a scored tool can't be a sponsor.
FAQ
How are tools ranked?
Each tool gets an editorial score out of 10 based on fit for dental practices, integrations, support and evidence such as FDA clearance where relevant. Every listing is reviewed by a person before it goes live.
Do sponsors affect rankings?
No. Any tool we score is not and can't be a sponsor. Sponsored placements are clearly labeled and sit beside the rankings, never inside them.
Why does pricing say 'Contact vendor'?
We only list prices vendors publish. Most dental software is quoted per practice.
Which tools do you include?
Tools built only for dentistry. General-purpose tools are listed only if they show a clear, public dental use, ideally with active users at US dental practices.
Can I suggest a tool?
Yes. Use the Suggest a product page (dentalaitools.com/suggest) or reply to any newsletter issue.
